X-ONE Racing make winning a habit
X-ONE Racing headed to the Chang International Circuit, in Buriram, Thailand this weekend for the second round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Championship. Haryanto defending a strong lead in the Am category after winning both races in Sepang, would be partnered by the young Korean driver Doyun Hwang making his Super Trofeo debut. The weekend didn’t start well when an accident after just six laps of free practice left the X-ONE Racing mechanics in a race against time to repair the car in time for qualifying the next day.
Hwang took part in the first qualifying session and qualified 5th in Am whilst Haryanto, going out in the second session, took his second class pole of the season. The climate conditions were challenging when the Lamborghini’s lined up on the grid for race one. With the asphalt registering 54°C and humidity at 65% the temperatures inside the cockpit pushed the driver’s endurance to the limit. Hwang started the race and ran well, moving up from 13th to 9th overall in his stint. On lap twelve he pitted and handed the 69 X-ONE Racing Lamborghini over to Haryanto. Consistently the fastest Am on track he went on to take his third win in three races.
Haryanto started race two and by the third lap was lying 4th overall with a three second lead to the next placed Am car down in 7th. A lap later he was passed by Pro driver Collingbourne but maintained his class lead. When the pit window opened Haryanto was in 5th holding a two second gap over Buncharoen, the second placed Am driver. Pitting on lap sixteen Haryanto handed the X-ONE Racing Lamborghini Huracan over to Hwang who rejoined several seconds behind Sarun who had been charging during the pit window. As the minutes ticked down the battle at the front of the Am group was between Sarun, Hwang and Buncharoen and their positions remained unchanged when the chequered flag fell after fifty minutes of intense racing. The fine second place allowed Haryanto to further extend his Championship advantage.
The Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia Championship will reconvene next month in Japan at Suzuka.
